Hello smile

I'm Siobhan Curran/Kisa Naumova, and this is my weblog. I tend to write about stuff like crossdressing, Macs, code, cats, wine and Second Life, but in general it's just an ongoing conversation about all sorts of stuff. If you'd like to know a little bit more about what this all is, I recommend starting on this page which has a little bit of info on who I am, and what I'm trying to do — or you could dive into my five years worth of archives if you like.

Otherwise, feel free to close this box and explore...

It's a Hard Life...

It's a Hard Life...

Poor little guy. He has to go out every night, kill all sorts of furry creatures, and then his mum disturbs his all-day-sleep by insisting on taking his picture. I mean, it's not like he gets all his food provided for him or anything.

Hackintosh

There's a story on Wired Magazine this morning, about a group of geeks hacking the new OSX (the development one that runs on Intel Chips) to run on any PC — bypassing the Trusted Platform Module chip...

Mac Hacks Allow OS X on PCs
Before Apple can bring computers featuring Intel processors to market, hackers get the company's operating system running on generic PC hardware. By Mark Baard. [Wired News]

I still don't know how I feel about the whole issue, so I'm not going to get into a pro/con debate about it, it was just that I noticed something rather odd about one of the pictures that went along with the article.

This screenshot -- from a machine identified as the Apple Development Platform -- was provided by a hacker called "deathchill22," who says he's running the Mac OS on a PC. Photo: Anonymous

I've circled the bit that looks a bit odd to me:

Do you see what I mean?

The bottom of the "1 GB" seems to be lying over the top of the Activity Monitor title bar

I call fake.

ok, your computing posts always lose me, bute that is a gorgeous cat you have there.

lol yes , cats I understand, comps I get lost in pretty easily . Hes a cutie

Well I HAD to check that out. And while I can't verify or deny their claims, I personally can make my system profiler window and activity monitor window look similar to that. If you put the window in the foreground just BARELY over some text in the underlying window, you can get it to look like that. very strange...

Wow  You're absolutely right. I stand corrected

Apologies.

Hey, don't be so quick on the apologies! I said I was able to make it look "similar" and "like" it. I'm still trying to find why the activity window border is TWO pixels thick, where as mine is only ONE. And the text in the underlying system profiler is much darker in the pics I make. Could be that they have a different resolution monitor, or something in the file compression makes it do that... OR, you could be right, and it's fake! I'm always up for a good conspiricy! BUT... it would be nice to be able to run os X on my intel box. Would make it WAY easier to make it talk to my mac mini.

The two-pixel border? Looking at the original, I think that's down to Wired resizing the image. I'll see if I can recreate it a bit later on. The main argument I had against it — that the text shouldn't overlap the window border — is obviously wrong though. Hence the apologies.

Here — no "double pixel border", but just scaling a screengrab down made the text-overlap look a lot more prominent...

*sigh* — thought I was onto something there...

I'm having a bit of a creative block with a lot of the work I'm doing at the moment. I dunno what it is — maybe it's the complexity of the things I'm trying to achieve single-handedly, maybe it's the environment I'm in, maybe it's all the distractions, maybe it's because essentially I'm a lazy sod...

Either way, I decided to divert my attention from the Black Hole of Unfinished Code that is my work at the moment, and play around with some photos.

I like making these things  It's rather relaxing.

"Do you see what I mean?"

Er well only after you've blown it up. Can I just say the resolution of your eyes must be amazing to have picked up on that.

"Black Hole of Unfinished Code"

I know that feeling so well. Only marginally less deep than the sinking feeling in your stomach when its time to revert your attention back to it. When I want to get away from it I sneak out onto the web and read your (and others) excellent bloggs.

I have SVGA eyes

Must say; your 'green swirly thing' (technical term) is fab-groovy.

(But I wont tell you what my spell-checker suggested for 'fab-groovy'!!)

Alli' Cat'

Er while you are contemplating the black hole of coding. Bloglines isn't telling me when you have updated. I know it is not the most speedy on undating but for 4 days on the trot?

Love the cat photo as well and the green swirly thing.

Strange  I checked it using !Mike's blogline link, and it seemed to be OK.

De-lurking to say love the green swirly thing, will there be a red,yellow....one

Guess what we bought

A fiver from Sainsburys. Bargain

Good bargain and the food looks inviting to, my kind of cooking

Oh nice! I've been meaning to buy one all summer... just havn't gotten around to it yet. The neighbors next door have one and our air conditioner sucks the smell of cooking meat into our house... drives me crazy.

A Conversation Of Feet
