Hello smile

I'm Siobhan Curran/Kisa Naumova, and this is my weblog. I tend to write about stuff like crossdressing, Macs, code, cats, wine and Second Life, but in general it's just an ongoing conversation about all sorts of stuff. If you'd like to know a little bit more about what this all is, I recommend starting on this page which has a little bit of info on who I am, and what I'm trying to do — or you could dive into my five years worth of archives if you like.

Otherwise, feel free to close this box and explore...

Reasons To Be Cheerful

A short list of Exciting Things™ which are currently contributing to my uncharacteristically bloody good mood at the moment

Park 4DTV

http://www.park.nl/park_cms/public/index.php?e_expo_id=251

Really rather excited about this  To quote from their website:

For over 20 years now PARK4DTV used the available electronic media to create ‘Pure Image and Sound’. In the early days as an illegal pirate-station, later on making use of local cable Networks in Amsterdam (where over 12 1/2 years we distributed a daily ‘1 hour, 1 thing’ via Salto Television), Berlin, New York and Rotterdam.

Of course from the early days on in 1994 we experimented to broadcast video over the internet. Now, 10 years later, on September 1, the quality meets our demands and can be compared to TV.

What's exciting for me, is that for years I've sat in this studio, making my little films, and the only exposure they ever really get outside of my own space is when I show them in lectures.

And when I shove them on here, obviously

Now though, Pigeonholed is being shown worldwide  And not just in web browsers — here's a little snap of me watching my own work in Second Life...

Pigeonholed

A while back, a colleague of mine mentioned that a friend of his was looking for artists to contribute work for sale in an online gallery. I presumed it was one of those "things to talk about but never really happen", but I guess I shouldn't judge everyone else by my own standards  Because not long ago, I was signing loads of little stickers to be put on the back of my work.

I'm not sure exactly when the sales part of the site is going live, but it should be pretty soon. What's great about it for me, is that (as we all know) I'm crap at organising things and self-promotion. But being part of this gallery means that all that's taken care of for me, and I can concentrate on actually making the work.

My New Macs

This is bad form isn't it? Posting the same image two days running  But I felt that I needed to expand a little on this...

Taking Shape

Somewhere, probably in a box in a truck in Amsterdam, there are some goodies waiting for me. Four 17-inch G5 iMacs, a 12-inch Powerbook and a 20-inch LCD display

And some other stuff too.

Over the course of the next few weeks, I'm going to be setting up this little 'creative hub' where I can spend most of my time at work, doing things on the web and helping students do Stuff™

What's exciting for me mostly, is that I'm starting to feel like I have a base over there. It's not just me perching on a chair in an office, or lying on a beanbag in the studio. I suppose that sometimes, when I'm over in Leeds, I feel a bit "floaty" — a bit unsettled, a bit like I'm hovering in other people's spaces. But this room is mine, and I'm really excited about it

The other day, one of the Third Years brought his iMac in for me to take a look at. He was having a couple of issues with settings in Final Cut Pro, so I toook the oppportunity to see what the room might look like with a Mac in it.

We fired it up, I sorted out his video for him, then we dicked-around a bit with Front Row, playing some music while we both did a bit of work.

I can't really get across just how cool it was  There was an atmosphere in there, and I'll say it one more time: I'm really excited.

Lancaster Pride

http://www.lancasterpride.co.uk/

Hot on the tail of last weekend's debauchery, a chance to swan around Lancaster Town Hall in a ballgown

Except I haven't actually got a ballgown  I feel an improvisation session coming on...

Interestingly though, Katya sent a timely email to the UK Angels Yahoo Group last night, pondering the significance of the 'T' at the end of 'LGBT'. Now, I'm still a bit unsure as to how I feel about it — I'm swaying more to the side of "It shouldn't be there" — but I feel that question of visibility is an important one.

And besides, I qualify for two of the letters

So, today will mostly be spent faffing around trying to create something fabulous to wear out of the bits and pieces I already have. Most likely centred around the skirt that I wore at Sparkle...

...perhaps with a different top. Or something

ooh we just got a g5 at work.

none of us have a clue what to do with it, to the point where my boss rang john lewis and asked when they were going to deliver the hard drive part.

...perhaps with a different top.

And some different shoes?

But I *love* my trainers!

"a friend of his was looking for artists to contribute work for sale in an online gallery...

Cool...I actually stumbled on this site a while ago, but as I'm equally crap at the self publicity side of things, did bugger all about it!!!

Best of luck with it, your work looks great.

If you haven't already seen it I strongly recommend going to see Hedwig and the Angry Inch during Lancaster Pride on Sunday if they have any tickets left.

I saw this in Atlanta last year and I've seen the stage show twice now. Great fun

I might just Sarah  I think Simon has a few tickets left.

Everything Around Me Is Slightly Broken

That pink background doesn't really work  I'll have to experiment...

Well, I recognise the top left photograph rather well! Slept there a few times

Oooh whatever you wear, have fun.

Hey, you told me at New Street that nothing ever happens in Lancaster. Liar Liar French cut knickers on Fire!

hmmm, I think the pink does work (always awkward me)

I'm gonna have to agree with Clarissa. But I'm a shoe whore. Don't listen to me.

Seen Hedwig, but the "Boys Don't Cry" film about the "brutal rape and murder" of Brandon Teena did catch my interest. Seems like it'll be a worthwhile Pride events, looks like the organisers have been busy. Hope to turns out as good as I think it will be, the whole week.

Do fill us in afterwards, Siobhan.

I should, perhaps, clear this out more often

It doesn't just happen in hotels — it can happen at home too. Becky's First Law of Trannie Dynamics: A Transvestite will expand to fill the available space

Yes, I toyed with the idea of going out tonight in a wedding dress — but decided against it

Trannie Explosion — also known as a "Drag Bomb". Last year on the Sunday night after SCC I offered to let an FTM guy called Sam stay with me. I had an extra key copied which I gave to him and went to bed before him. He crawled in some time later, looked around the room, couldn't see a "drag bomb" and concluded he couldn't be in the right room as every other Tgirl room he'd seen had one. He was tired though and there was a spare bed so he took it anyway  It was only in the morning that he knew he was in the right room!

An hour early. This is not like me at all.

Re "Boys don't cry" — this one did when he watched it

This is actually really cool

Glad it's gone well.

Would have loved to have come along but we both know it's never going to happen.

Bowing out.

Looks good — even the walls are the right colour

Some mornings I get a TrannieExplosion going on, except I'm not a trannie, so I guess it's just an Explosion. I'm too awful at cleaning up...so the aftermath remains. It's especially bad when I'm at home because I have a habit of changing clothes five times before I go out with my mum and they're positively everywhere. I think everyone's got a little wardrobe dynamite in.
