Hello smile

I'm Siobhan Curran/Kisa Naumova, and this is my weblog. I tend to write about stuff like crossdressing, Macs, code, cats, wine and Second Life, but in general it's just an ongoing conversation about all sorts of stuff. If you'd like to know a little bit more about what this all is, I recommend starting on this page which has a little bit of info on who I am, and what I'm trying to do — or you could dive into my five years worth of archives if you like.

Otherwise, feel free to close this box and explore...

Weblog Notes

tagtech idea tranniefesto blog

I've been thinking recently about footnotes — or rather, the lack of any cunning part of this weblog's script to deal with them properly. I'd love some kind of little text-based trigger that would shunt a footnote down to the bottom of a page, and leave an anchor in it's place.

John Gruber has a really interesting little article on how he implements them, BTW: http://daringfireball.net/2005/07/footnotes

I was thinking something similar to the Markdown syntax for a link — [text](url) — would be good.

But then I started wondering if I wanted little footnotes cluttering up the bottom of the page — and how jumping out of the conversational flow of the way that I write would affect this.

I mean, you don't have footnotes in speech do you?

But then, I figured, sometimes I do say things that need some kind of 'indicator' attached to them. Some kind of device for restrospectively attaching some kind of descriptor to.

So I thought this might work...

Weblog Notes

Pretty standard kind of implementation I guess — a hidden <div> with a background .png and a JavaScript to show it when you hover over a word — but what would be a challenge, I think, is to write something that let you create them.

OK, just as a "Wouldn't this be cool" thing, imagine that somewhere on the page was a small icon that looked like this — — and all you had to do was drag'n'drop it somewhere within the main body of text and you could leave a note attached to wherever you let go?

Kind of like Flickr Notes meets Google Map Balloons meets MacOSX's Bezels

Without the time (and knowledge) at the moment to develop something like that, I'll have (I'm afraid) to come back to it some other time. Unless anyone else wants to help me?

Hey Siobhan,

Do you know there's a link to here at www.sky.com/news — Jeremy Thompson's Live at 5 Blog (subject Calling All Bloggers)?

Off topic: Psst... (...and shhh!)

Mike, have I told you recently what a lovely, sweet, lovely, wonderful, sweet, gorgeous, fabulous, fair, generous and tastefully lovely big poof you are?

Do you know there's a link

I did actually  Tom told me the other night. He gave it to Jeremy after appearing on Sky News dressed in pyjamas in geekish dapper finery.

That picture though — I can't help but imagine that Jeremy Thompson has just said "You have lovely eyes", and Tom's going "Aw, shucks"

ooh that would be very cool if you did do that.

Hey c'lam — I think there are some spambots out their trying to clone you, but making a bit of a fuck-up of it
