Hello smile

I'm Siobhan Curran/Kisa Naumova, and this is my weblog. I tend to write about stuff like crossdressing, Macs, code, cats, wine and Second Life, but in general it's just an ongoing conversation about all sorts of stuff. If you'd like to know a little bit more about what this all is, I recommend starting on this page which has a little bit of info on who I am, and what I'm trying to do — or you could dive into my five years worth of archives if you like.

Otherwise, feel free to close this box and explore...

Sport Is Evil And Destroys Technological Progress

Change Is Good

tagtranniefesto design

I've been talking about a redesign for a while now, haven't I? This weblog has looked like this for over a year now, and I think it's about time I did something about it.

It's not that I dislike the design of it currently, nor do I feel that I have to change it just 'cos it's been a year — it's because I have certain fundamental issues with the core functionality of this design.

Like amny things I do in life, I never had a plan in my head when I first switched from the dusty-pink background to this lighter version — I was just playing around with the logotype and figured this was the way to go.

And after that, I just stumbled around, adding bits and pieces, here and there, and ended up with this.

My problem with it, is that it's Just Another Weblog Template (essentially), and it doesn't fit with my way of doing things. Regardless of what you might think about my 'continuous stream' way of posting, it's what I do. And this layout really doesn't reflect that at all.

For a start, the navigation sucks. If you dive into this halfway through, the links on the left still show you what's going on in the current week. That's not what I want — I want to give the sense of having dived right into the middle of a continuous feed from the past four years.

Equally, the other stuff in the sidebar — the Flickr images and the Blogroll — it's all completely out of context. I don't want this to be a whole load of little-bitty things dotted around the page — I want it to be one stream.

...

A few days ago, I was sat in the living room, with papers strewn around me with ideas and code and sketches on them, trying to decide the best way forward. I've had the underlying design concept in my head since the middle of October — but trying to solidify it into a fully-formed design has been difficult.

dev

Partly just in getting the colours right, partly just in getting the CSS to work across as many browsers as possible — but mainly because I'm very wary of losing the personality that (I think) comes across through how this weblog looks.

Anyway, I'm nearly there. I've just got a few little elements to sort out and it's ready.

The thing is though, part of me wanted to take the opportunity of doing a redesign to completely redo the underlying code from scratch. But I'm a lazy sod, and I've been relying on hacked versions of my own code.

So, the question in my head is currently: "Just when do you go live with it?"

Do I wait until all the bits are in place, or do I just give-in to my impatience and say "Sod it", then pick up all the pieces later on?

...

I dunno — it's a bit scarey really

You know that thing where you go and have a drastic hair-cut, then panic about turning up at work the next day and everyone laughs at you?...

It's about time I made another of these

So, the question in my head is currently: "Just when do you go live with it?"

When you have the time & energy to get it all working within a week.

Seeing the new format is cool — I always eagerly await website redesigns (I did it something like 16 times before I discovered Wordpress, which appeals to my joint lack of talent and laziness)It's much like shedding an old skin (insert other "transformation metaphor here" so ASAP is my opinion; but only if the various modules can be up and running soon after. Otherwise, leave until totally ready.

ASAP is my opinion; but only if the various modules can be up and > running soon after

Well, yeah — that's kinda of how I feel. The 'modules', I guess, are all the little scripts that I've written that scrape things from del.icio.us and Flickr and from email — essentially, they don't have to change.

Just have their code tidied.

The only thing I've still to do is the comment-form. Part of me wants to simplify it a lot, but part of me loves the flexibility of it.

Ack, I dunno. I can't do it today ayway — I'm in Leeds tomorrow.

Yeah. I say just change it. If you don't like it change it again. It's the web. It's not like you're printing a 100,000 run of corporate brochure.

Sorry. I'll give you a more considered opinion when I'm less addlepated.

Hmm. Am I making too big a deal of this?

(PS. I had to look that up )

I don't know. I just had a boozy meeting at lunch so I may be being too blunt.

Just as long as I'm not being too James fucking Blunt

 I dunno — you London types and your boozy lunches. Here's me slaving away lying on my backside in the North, listening to the traditional sounds of chavs passing my window, and you're living it up like a Queen.

So, you actually use pen and paper to plan things out? FFS, just do it...

I can't believe I went through with using FFS... and I'm about to click 'Submit'. What's the world coming to? (rant, rant, rant)...

Self Indulgence

Being as it's ten to five, and I doubt a Parcel Force van bearing huge dresses is likely to arrive today, I'm going to take the opportunity to run myself a bath, totally destress, and afford myself the luxury of wearing a dress for the rest of the day.

Just thought you'd like to know

Half Way To The Moon

At some point, probably in Ilkley tomorrow morning, I will have driven a very long way indeed. (Actually, it's about 20000 miles short of half way)

I'll bet that you miss it changing as well... I always do  (should that really get me sooooo upset???)

Maybe — but I've just worked out it should be just at a lay-by just past Draughton in Yorkshire

(God, I'm pathetic)
