Hello smile

I'm Siobhan Curran/Kisa Naumova, and this is my weblog. I tend to write about stuff like crossdressing, Macs, code, cats, wine and Second Life, but in general it's just an ongoing conversation about all sorts of stuff. If you'd like to know a little bit more about what this all is, I recommend starting on this page which has a little bit of info on who I am, and what I'm trying to do — or you could dive into my five years worth of archives if you like.

Otherwise, feel free to close this box and explore...

The Amazing Alka-Seltzer Rocket

I can't try this one out, I need every Alka-Seltzer I can get for what they're supposed to be used for

Just a really nice picture I found, which (for reasons I'll explain in a bit) reminds me of last night

I Should Stick To Plastic

Normally, I don't really mind when I break a wine glasss. But this one was a birthday present from last year, and was crystal. Sorry guys

Normally, I don't really mind when I break a wine glasss

I usually only really mind when it is full of wine... seems like such a waste

Indeed. And this one was, as it happens, full of wine

I was doing my late-night-dancing-thing, and one of my energetic arm movements knocked it off my desk onto the floor — smashing it and sending wine everywhere. All over an old hard disk, all over the rug, and all over my stockings.

There was still some left in the bottle (it wasn't an expensive one — just a £3 cheapy plonk), but I took that as a sign that I should stop for the night and go to bed.

Bed. That was probably a good plan. I've been up....twelve minutes and I still think it sounds good.

How're you gonna get the wine out of everything?

By leaving it and hoping that it goes away by itself. I'm very lazy in that respect.

Remember a while back, we were talking about schemes for preventing spam-bot comments?

Well here's an interesting article http://www.boingboing.net/2006/04/12/usekittensto_disti.html about a method of doing that — using kittens! Perhaps Becky could come up with a hamster version

I think Becky's already working on such an idea

Thoughts That Almost Made It Out Of My Head Complete

tagrandom

But not quite.

...

I was eating a cheese and ham sandwich just there — sharing little bits of ham with Biscuit. There was lots of mustard in it. *chomp chomp chomp chomp crunch*. Cheese and ham sandwiches should not crunch. There was blood on the bread, but all my teeth (the few that they are) are intact. Odd.

...

Where do you draw the line? At what point along this scale does it become 'unacceptable': clothed tranny ... lingerie tranny ... limp in panties tranny ... stiff in panties tranny ... no panties tranny ... fisting in suspenders tranny. I guess we're just all very different.

...

Today I am down. Take one mid-thirties transvestite, mix with two bottles of wine, add a dash of exhuberant weekend fun, then simmer in a house on her own with too much work to do and not enough motivation to do any of it. Salt and pepper to taste.

...

I want to stop using Flickr to post pictures to my weblog. I hate that two conversations develop. I need to use it in a different way. I also want to remove the comment form from days other than 'today'.

...

I bought two (yes, two) dresses off Ebay earlier. They're being made in China. I'm not sure how I feel about the potential 'sweatshop' implications of that. I have to wait at least four weeks for them, and had to send all my measurements (in centimetres). I hope I got them right. They're GothLoli dresses BTW. I am now smitten by Mana

...

I have too many new things to watch and listen to. What I really want to do is sleep for a bit.

...

I tried a new thing with my photography last night. The theme that I always work with is masking originals — destroying unmentionables — and this was no different. 48 carefully chosen pixels from a photograph destined never to see the light of day, blown up to 3 by 4 foot. It didn't work as well as I wanted it to.

...

A friend of mine makes ambient music. Here's a link to his MySpace wotsit with sample mp3s. I think MySpace is ugly, but whatcha gonna do eh?

"They're being made in China"

Theres also the impact on local designers too. While working at a bridal fair recently, I was shocked to hear how many designers and boutiques are struggling Brides-to-be are using them to try on lots of dresses until they find the perfect one, but then downloading photos of it off the net and having knock-off copies run up in China and Asia at a fraction of the cost.

Oooh, that's naughty :o

By the way, did you watch 'Grand Designs' last night? — I want it!

No, I was watching something else — but I forget what exactly

Are you having a Morrissey Moment™ ? Here, have a smiley face:

*aw* Thanks hon. Yeah, just a bit meh today I guess.

You know, someone once told me that the "humdrum town" in question that Morrissey sings about, is Morecambe. I'm not sure how true that is, but I can understand it completely.

A Web 2.0 Wishlist (Of One Item)

Sorry, just had a thought. Wouldn't it be great if there was some way of adding content to websites by dragging and dropping from other applications?

Think about it, instead of selecting files with loads of <input type="file">s everywhere (aren't they a pain if you're uploading 20 photographs to Flickr¹), you could just drag them all at once from the Finder.

Even better, would be some kind of sexy EditInPlace thing that would let you drop an image (or a video) in the middle of a WYSIWYG text editor.

If this already exists, (a) apologies, and (b) I can think of loads things I want to do with it.

¹ Yes, I know you can use external apps to load photographs to Flickr. I use the Flickr iPhoto Plugin personally.

(The '[1]' thing, BTW, is for something I'm going to code after I get back from the shops. It looks like a nice evening and since I haven't left the house at all today, I'm going for a little walk)

Theres that odd melanthingy in the air today. I sat at my desk all day watching the rain in between coding bits of SQL and answering the usual 1000 questions from everyone. Normaly the thought of 4 days off in a row would have me doing a woupadidy do moment with being able to drink when where and as much as I want, but today....meh. Its not like I haven't done anything this week either! I've been mr proactive at work doing all sort of crap jobs no one wants, getting my Intel laptop to run Max OSX (sorry using Solaris, BSD, various Linux distros it was a big disapointment in the end). Hope things get better, if it rains all weekend then......meh+drink! Even the impending thought of having to work in Madrid for a week doesn't do anything at the moment.

SO I see an article about the newish Google Calander service. It talks about needing a Gmail account to use it. So, I have one, I login..

So i search for public calenders, "lancaster" and low and behold, who is top of the list!?

At least now i know Marion is visiting!

Ah, I should change that — she's coming on Wednesday apparently. I should also change when my Gran's birthday is. I thought she was ninety on the eighth. I was confusing her with my sister

For what it's worth

Your sister's going on ninety? :^)

Ha! You know sometimes when you write something when you're tired and drunk, and you just know someone's going to read it the wrong way?

Yeah, Ive been looking for a decent online calender system for a while...Short of having a .mac account that is.

Also, do you know of a service that will store your bookmarks privately?

"Wouldn't it be great if there was some way of adding content to websites by dragging and dropping from other applications?"

Don't know if this helps — haven't looked at it in detail. The relevant bit (possibly) is half way down the article.

Hmm, I'm not sure I could see where it referenced what I was talking about  I know it mentions 'drag-n-drop', but he seems to be talking about it within the browser, not from external applications.

I don't know enough about these types of things (no kidding Siobhan), but if I drag an image from my desktop into a Safari window, it displays it — so it must have some way of knowing what file I'm dragging. What I'm after here is some kind of 'image well' that I can embed within a form and drop photographs (or films, or other kinds of files) into.

BTW, wouldn't it be great if just after leaving a comment, you could edit it, and change the name..? Something to work on, perhaps...

And here's me thinking Ajax is some kind of old school cleaning product!
