Hello smile

I'm Siobhan Curran/Kisa Naumova, and this is my weblog. I tend to write about stuff like crossdressing, Macs, code, cats, wine and Second Life, but in general it's just an ongoing conversation about all sorts of stuff. If you'd like to know a little bit more about what this all is, I recommend starting on this page which has a little bit of info on who I am, and what I'm trying to do — or you could dive into my five years worth of archives if you like.

Otherwise, feel free to close this box and explore...

Dear Linden Lab,

What are you THINKING? Some of us have business to run! Once again, LL shafts the hard-working customer. I signed up so that I could sell stolen textures — and I can't! And Torley is just the last straw! I don't expect a reply to this of course, after all, you don't want to know what we think. — Ordinal Malaprop's Random Linden Lab Flame Generator is uncannily accurate

Men With Ponytails

Being, as I am, such a thing (↑), I'm inclined to notice other similarly coiffured chaps when I'm out and about. I would imagine that not many of them have eschewed the more traditional short back and sides for the same reason that I have, but still, we all share similar pros and cons relating to our condition.

...

As an aside, I was in the pub with my colleagues last week, talking about going down to London for a meeting sometime soon...

"It's not just a shoping trip for you, to go buy wigs or something, you know"

"I know, and besides, I dont need a wig these days, ha!"

*pause*

*glance at hair*

"Yes you do! hahahahaha"

"hahahahah"

...

I really like my hair  It is, I must confess (rather proudly) nearly half-way down my back by now. Although I do tend to have it up in a ponytail all the time, I do sometimes let it down and spend a while flopping it from one side of my head to another.

I like (perhaps with misguided self-delusion of astronomic proportions) to think that it does look rather 'feminine' — even if I haven't actually ever had it styled. It seems to have grown out in a 'reasonably' decent way.

(Although one day I must get it done properly)

Anyway, I was just wondering what other men with ponytails do. Do they keep it up all the time? Or do they sometimes let it all hang out?

And if they keep it up (*fnarr*) all the time, then what's the point?

I keep mine tied back mostly — it just gets in the way otherwise. Even then annoying bits sneak out and start tickling my face when I'm tying to work on something. Plus it's always trying to bind itself into one large dreadlock so I have to let it down sometimes to stop it.

Gah! Even with preview I made a spelling mistake.

Hair down when I can, i.e. around home and not doing housework. Tied back for work when I have to look smart, except in my last job where they relaxed the dress policy, then I started wearing it down for work too. And if it's up for work, then it's sometimes a ponytail, and sometimes a french plait. It's nice to have a choice

I tie mine back if it becomes annoying, which happens often if I don't attack it with my hair straighteners on a regular basis — I prefer it loose given the choice.

Front And Centre

I'm rubbish at writing reviews, so I'm not going to even try — apart from mentioning that last night I practically pissed myself laughing in the company of Marcus Brigstocke at The Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal.

"Git Wizard" — genius

We got our tickets a few months ago, as it happens...

"I've booked the tickets!"

"Cool! Where are we sat?"

"Best seats in the house! Right in the middle of the front row!"

"Nooooooooooooo!"

I'd thought it was a well-known fact that the front row of the audience at a comedy gig Is To Be Avoided At All Cost™ — being as it's the place where most of the 'victims' sit. You know — if there's one group of people most likely to get the piss taken out of them at such a venue, it's the ones on the front row

Having said that, we didn't get the piss taken out of us  We just spent the whole time creased up, tears running down our faces, at the comedic wit of a true genius.

He's in Coventry next week. If there are any tickets left, get one

Ooh he's coming to King's Lynn soon. I meant to book tickets.

If you want a bit more MB fun, check out "Stupid" on CBBC of a friday afternoon. MB plays "King Stupid". I think the aural similarity to the phrase "fucking stupid" is accidental.

Oooh look, you go away for a week and they put in a preview button! :-O

Bloody comedians.

I don't know how his theatre dates are booked, but it's not as if he's playing the major venues. Kendal and Haywards Heath FFS. Does he touch such metropoli as Lancaster? Not a chance. And the only places in the north of England are Durham and Kendal (I don't count Manchester as the north as it's virtually in Wales). Do cities stop north of Birmingham (rhetorical question, ladies...)

Sorry. This was a rant I've been wanting to have for a while. They should just wall us in and turn us into a theme park. We could get arts council grants to have flat caps and whippets....

mumble, mutter

"Anyway, I was just wondering what other men with ponytails do. Do they keep it up all the time? Or do they sometimes let it all hang out?"

Down all the time... Unless (strangely enough...) when I'm in girlie mode, when I sometimes clip it up!!!

I guess shaving is the other obvious hair-up moment :-s

Anyway, I was just wondering what other men with ponytails do. Do they keep it up all the time? Or do they sometimes let it all hang out?

And if they keep it up (fnarr) all the time, then what's the point?

I have it tied back for 70-80% of my waking life. The point? To have a ponytail. It's not about having loose long hair, for me.

[snip]

Oooh — lots of pretty spam — but not for long, I'll wager. I wonder if they used the preview facility?

not for long, I'll wager

Good job I'm on my lunch break

...what other men with ponytails do.

I keep mine up most of the time (work, etc) mainly because there's not as much of it as there once was (bloody testosterone  ). As a callow youth, with extremely long hair (over eighteen inches), I always left it loose. This did have certain drawbacks:

  • Trying to light a fag, outdoors, in a bit of a wind. Ignite lighter, bring close to fag, wind gets up, set fire to head!
  • Having races with friends along a beach on a breezy day. Out in front and approaching the 'tape'. Kick for the finish line and draw in great lung full of air — along with a huge hank of hair that the playful wind had whipped across my gaping gob. There is nothing quite so disgusting as pulling over a foot of hair out of your throat and trying not to puke on it; while your ever-so-sympathetic 'mates' roll about laughing.

I don't fit into the whole 'men with ponytails' demographic, obviously, but isn't it the most fun in the world to put it in a ponytail and then hang it over a shoulder. Makes me feel like Rapunzel.

Of course I went and chopped off a lot of my hair so I can't do that anymore. But we're growing it back, yes we are.

Well, yes, there are downsides to having long hair. Usually they involved a gentle or not so gentle breeze. Even worse is that sudden intake of breath just before a sneeze that you cannot take because you've just inhaled hair too!

I'm going to really miss mine when I eventually have to have it cut off (/me grumbles about testosterone too )

An anonymous coward

At work, or when I'm cooking it's tied up. Stray strands usually manage to escape, somehow, so I can end up with a couple of bangs framing my face if I'm not too careful.

I like to wear it down whenever possible, but untangling it after riding the motorbike is an absolute pain in the a##e.

At home it's usually down. At work, it's in pigtails or under a stupid bandana.

Apropos nothing — have you thought about taking part in 'Blog Britain'?

This long-haired boy lets it run free most of the time. I love the feel of it in a nice breeze. It can be bothersome on my bicycle, though.

I pull it back at work most of the time, but there are always errant strands popping out of strange places.

I think most long-haired guys look better when it's left down than when tying it up behind.

Hey, your website looks really good......on my new MacBook!!! (Finally)

I'm jealous of Emily. I wish I could wear mine in pigtails for work.

Well, I probably could, but I don't know how long I'd survive in the job if I did, especially as I've only just started.

/me goes off to sulk
