Hello
I'm Siobhan Curran/Kisa Naumova, and this is my weblog. I tend to write about stuff like crossdressing, Macs, code, cats, wine and Second Life, but in general it's just an ongoing conversation about all sorts of stuff. If you'd like to know a little bit more about what this all is, I recommend starting on this page which has a little bit of info on who I am, and what I'm trying to do — or you could dive into my five years worth of archives if you like.
Otherwise, feel free to close this box and explore...
For The Record
code portfolio stuff-i've-done film photography
I realise that it's a consistent moan of mine — and one that I really probably could do something about if I set my mind to it — but I'm always lamenting that the day-to-day format of this blog means that if I do something I consider to me A Cool Thing™ and mention it, within a couple of days it's slipped into obscurity.
I was thinking though, the other day, that I have done a fair number of (IMHO) Interesting Things™, and I wanted to gather them all together in one place. So, if yous'll indulge me for a while, I just wanted to make a great big list of the things I've made — for posterity.
Consider it a bit of a 'CV' if you like ![]()
Whimsical Tranny-based Things
The TrannieSphere©™
A map of the interconnected TV/TG weblogs (as of August 2005), and the blogs that they link to, starting at mine, and expanding until every TV/TG blogroll was exhausted.
I am very proud of this.
No really. Very. Proud. You think I'm joking with the copyright symbol don't you?
I'm not.
http://www.tranniefesto.co.uk/tranniesphere.htm
The Trannisaurus
A collection of words, inspired by Viz's Roger's Profanisaurus, relating to transgenderism. Most are completely made-up. It's a bit 'Wiki' as well — anyone can add to/edit the entries — but what I'm most chuffed with is the almost-perfect text styling to resemble the OED.
The URL for this is going to change at some point soon — I've (intentionally) let the domain slip out of my hands, so I need to find a new home for it.
http://www.tranniefesto.co.uk/trannisaurus/
The TrannyFlickrverse
Similar to the TrannieSphere©™, but this time a map of the myriad of TV/TG groups on Flickr, based on the membership of the admins of each of them, starting from the five of us on trannyflickr.

Second Life Stuff
SLideViewr
A colaboration between myself and AngryBeth Shortbread, that displays slideshows of Flickr sets (and groups) in-world based on configurable notecards. The PHP code contained in the kit is based around Erin's configuration, and as such it doesn't always work on other webservers. I have though, had success with a couple of installations — it's usually stuff like the GD library and fopen() things. If you've got a copy and are having issues with it, IM me and I'll see what I can do.

Flickr Set Browser
Taking the SlideViewr a step further, this one pulls up any Flickr users sets in a prim-based menu, and allows you to explore them. I haven't made this one available yet, but if you want a copy IM me.

sl2flickr

A Flickr/Second Life geotagging map-based mashup. Oh yes. Once you've registered with the site, and authenticated it with Flickr, any postcard you send from in-world to a certain email address gets added to both your photostream and the Flickr Second Life pool. Then all of them are pulled into a map with little clicky markers and windows and stuff.
I'm still developing this — it's very slow for a start, and there are a few features I want to add. Bear with me.

Mini-map scanner thingy
Just a quick "Hey, I wonder if you could...?" developed alongside Wandering Yaffle, that sends avatar information from within a configurable radius of a prim and displays green dots alongside profile photos on a web-based map.
Not sure of the 'privacy' ramifications of this one, but it was fun to make.
eyefood.Steiger
A first foray into shadow texture-baking in the larger of my (current) two galleries where mine and Katerine Lemaire's work is on show and for sale. Kinda chuffed with the 3D logotype myself...

eyefood.Munck
A smaller gallery with just some of my stuff in it at present. You can also see some of my films here.
H Building
An in-progress reconstruction of the building in Leeds that I teach in. It's currently a little too small to be 'realistic' (because of odd avatar sizes and PITA camera positions) and I need to totally overhaul the texturing — but it's a start.
We (me and some colleagues) are hoping to drag some of our students in here to see what they make of it.
I'm also hoping to get my hands on the plans for the rumoured "new building" so that we can experiment with internal layouts and stuff. Beanbags, for example.
Films
The first eight formed part of my MA submission in 2001.
Are You a Being
PigeonHoled
Potentially The Greatest
Head_clog
Sheep Migging
self:destruct
f601
Geometry 101
The following are more recent, but I've really let my film-production slide in recent years. I must get back into it...
Embarassed Napkin
This is the outcome of my Eddie Izzard Moment™. He never wrote back to say "Thanks"...
Coffee Nibs
My prize-winning (oh yes) submission for Creative Review's DigitalVision Remix competition from 2003. This formed part of a onedotzero exhibition in the ICA, or so I'm led to believe.
Altshiftone
The only Machinima I've made inside Second Life to date, although it's not initially obvious.
Photography
Zipcodes

Synaesthetic interpretations of people, places, and things. Vertical stripes have a huge set of symbolisms for me, and while I could go into the whys and wherefores of them, I prefer to explain them as "just being pretty".

Hand Stitched

In your face David Bloody Hockney. I've had a go with autostitching software in the past, but the outcomes are too 'clinical' — there's something about the intrisic frustrations of the hand-placed mismatches that I find mroe appealing.

Deformations

These are pretty. That's it. No symbolism at all in them.

A Minute-long Stroll

A few years ago, I did a very systematic set of photographs on Second Avenue in New York — opening the shutter for exactly one second each time I crossed a street resulting in a minute's worth of New York Road Crossing Light captured on film.
I've never actually got around to scanning/printing the negatives, but a while back I recreated the project in the slightly less glamorous location of "From my house to Sainsburys".

Currantly

An idea knicked blatantly from Miss K
's "I am here" series, and nicked from me by Becky
with her occasional "Envéritély" photos.
Basically, a collection of moments of drinking, defined by random shots of (usually) wine glasses. Consider it my "photoblog" if you like.

There are more of my sets here, natch — although they're not really all up to scratch.
Websites
www.eyefood.co.uk

This is my main domain. The top-level is an experimental web-version of the two galleries in Second Life, and driven by the Flickr API. But underneath the surface (in non-public folders, sorry) are all the little things I play around with, just for fun.
www.slashseconds.org

Part of what I do at work — the web journal of our School's Research department. I must tidy up the code at some point. I must also actually submit something for it — when I've got something good enough that is.
www.creativepractice.org

The main web-based work that I do in Leeds. It's a site inspired (almost totally) by Flickr, but readapted to suit an Art/Graphics based teaching usage. The front pages only show a small sample of what goes on within the School — if you're actually on the course (or staff) you get access to absolutely everything, which (as I type) is about five to six thousand pieces of work within the last two months.

There you go, thats everything I can think of off the top of my head. There's one website that I know I've left off — this one — but I think it's self-explanatory.

Ha. And you thought your Broadband connection was fast. I get 10Gbit/s — at least I think I do... [el Reg]
Elsewhere — Big Debut
Just wanted to wish K
all the best for Deathline's debut gig at the Hope & Anchor tonight, and point out that if you live in London, and don't go, then you are foolish gits.
Which is all well and good, but what exactly did you think of Torchwood? You haven't mentioned it at all.. is this a bad sign?
I'm glad you finally linked to all of your films in one place.
You put more effort into your crowing though
That's because, frankly, I have more to crow about ![]()
[Edit] God, sorry Bex — that sounded really snarky of me
I didn't think I was "crowing" though, I just wanted a list I could refer to if I needed to ![]()
what exactly did you think of Torchwood?
It was OK. I hate the music though.
I'm glad you finally linked to all of your films in one place.
There are others. I've yet to find which tape/disc they're on, but when I do, I'll be adding to this page.
Nah it wasn't really crowing. That was snarky of me.
Big huuug. ![]()

As it happens, I do have something to crow about, but (a) I'll save it until this sodding hangover clears up, and (b) everyone will go "Meh" because it's a Second Life thing...
I hate the music though.
God yes, the music was dire. 1990s. industrial.
I think your SL thing is very crowable. In fact I look forward to the crowage.
Hold on a minute
Shouldn't you be either (a) nursing a massive hangover in bed, flushed with pride and success, or (b) writing a "how it went" complete with attached mp3s so the rest of us can listen to what we missed last night?
"If you live in London, and don't go, then you are foolish gits."
I would have gone, but I had a rehearsal for a band of my own. Can I get special dispensation?
Or an official pardon?
Or an MP3 of what I missed?
Or...okay, I'll settle for a cup of tea if that's all you have.
I think I'm going to make a new rule that all readers of this blog who are also in bands must post an mp3 before they can comment ![]()
Kris, I have no tea. I have booze though
Hold on a minute Shouldn't you be either (a) nursing a massive hangover in bed, flushed with pride and success, or (b) writing a "how it went" complete with attached mp3s so the rest of us can listen to what we missed last night?
or (c) all or some of the above. No MP3s I'm afraid. Just memories.
I will soon be hassling people to come to the next one in just under two weeks time. No one escapes that easy.
Is that "no MP3s" because you don't have the wherewithal to record them (which I doubt) or release them (which I can understand). Because I'd be happy to lend a hand with recording / mixing / hosting if the former, but patently have no part to play with convincing you otherwise if the latter.
And I probably won't be able to make two weeks time, either — but I'll be south-based from the end of November, for a while, so hopefully thereafter...

Snap. You put more effort into your crowing though.
