Hello
I'm Siobhan Curran/Kisa Naumova, and this is my weblog. I tend to write about stuff like crossdressing, Macs, code, cats, wine and Second Life, but in general it's just an ongoing conversation about all sorts of stuff. If you'd like to know a little bit more about what this all is, I recommend starting on this page which has a little bit of info on who I am, and what I'm trying to do — or you could dive into my five years worth of archives if you like.
Otherwise, feel free to close this box and explore...

Dance Monkey! Dance!
Hi there — I've been trying to download itube to tranfer some videos from youtube to my ipod tonight and it's been a bit of a task — gah — tried a bit of greasemonkey code first but I am basically a bit shit at technology (though enthusiastic). Hmm. Still, it's got to be better than than looking at my old vinyl and getting nostalgic...
Hmm, you know, I've come across a few things here and there that let you strip out the QuickTime from the Flash that wraps itself around YouTube videos. But I'm nowhere near any of my machines tonight.
I'll have a peak in the morning, and see what I can find ![]()

ffmpeg is the transcoding library we use on myminute.tv
Pretty much converts anything to anything (including FLV which is used in most of the video sites). I think there are several GUIs available for it on all the platforms.
On OSX, Tubular (http://www.tubularapp.com/blog/) is an interesting Beta app for ripping and transcoding YouTube vids

ffmpegx is the one I favour on Mac OSX — I haven't tried to do anything with a YouTube video with it though, but it's pretty good for standard drag-n-dropping.
In fact, I used a slightly hacked version of it to generate that raw ffmpeg commandline options for my video transcoding site.
thanks both — i will investigate — after a recent house move i'm still trying to resettle my tech set up /blushes at fancy sounding name for basic reality/ at home so it'll all help —
I went through this a couple of weeks ago, and downloaded the whole ffmpegx suite, but i found a much easier route (since I didn't need the whole video conversion suite).
I installed the YouTube To Me Video Greasemonkey userscript, which allows you to easily save the Flash video to your HD. And then I used the freeware iSquint (at isquint.org) to convert that to .mp4, which I then loaded to my iPod.

Oh, I have the same Starck bottle tops and the cat (not mine, I was house sitting for a few months, but we bonded, she was called Mushroom and sadly went the way of 19 yr old cats at the end of the summer) loved them. I really enjoyed your commuting post — Bingley is nice in parts too — if you get out of the main street bit. I lived in Manchester for ever (before Norwich — or Norridge as the locals say) and had friends who commuted to Leeds. It could be an option...
