Hello
I'm Siobhan Curran/Kisa Naumova, and this is my weblog. I tend to write about stuff like crossdressing, Macs, code, cats, wine and Second Life, but in general it's just an ongoing conversation about all sorts of stuff. If you'd like to know a little bit more about what this all is, I recommend starting on this page which has a little bit of info on who I am, and what I'm trying to do — or you could dive into my five years worth of archives if you like.
Otherwise, feel free to close this box and explore...
Five++ Working Days
Dammit, this is so frustrating.
It was, perhaps, a little optimistic of me to think — for a second — that things would be back to normal today. I've been sat all weekend (in between flinging paint and cement around the place) twiddling my thumbs, not able to call Sales Departments and Customer Support because of the Bank Holidays.
(You people shouldn't take holidays. *pfft*)
Each time I try the phone, I don't get a dial tone, but BT promises me it'll be up and running at some point today ... which is all very well and good, but to my utter disappointment I discovered that rather than happily processing things in the meantime, my ISP have been waiting for the line to come back before they start their thing.
"It'll be five working days after we've submitted the order", they said, just now.
"Oh, OK. Um. I just want to make sure though, that I can keep my old IP Address — is that doable?"
If you cast your minds back to January 2004, you see, I ran into a tricky little problem with DNS. For some reason, my ISP (who I love, don't get me wrong) doesn't automatically do reverse DNS, so even though I'd managed to get back online, I had to wait for them to set 81.168.114.66 as eyefood.co.uk before I could get any of my sites running.
And, anticipating the same problem this time around, I asked them last week if I could just have things running like they were before.
"Yes, that shouldn't be a problem. You just need to make a request ticket and mark it as urgent", they'd said.
But just there now, when I was bouncing the prospect of another week offline around my head, they said...
"No, that's not possible. But you can request a static IP on our website."
Shit. Arse. Bollocks. Fuck.
It's going more than five working days, isn't it? ![]()
