Hello smile

I'm Siobhan Curran/Kisa Naumova, and this is my weblog. I tend to write about stuff like crossdressing, Macs, code, cats, wine and Second Life, but in general it's just an ongoing conversation about all sorts of stuff. If you'd like to know a little bit more about what this all is, I recommend starting on this page which has a little bit of info on who I am, and what I'm trying to do — or you could dive into my five years worth of archives if you like.

Otherwise, feel free to close this box and explore...

Downtime

tagtranniefesto downtime warning

Yeah, I know, I only just got back up.

At some point over the next couple of days, this blog (and all the other sites/email I host) might be unavailable for a bit — not because of the same borkage as before, but because my IP address could possibly change, and it'll take the rest of the internets about a day¹ to catch up.

I say "might" and "possibly", because ... well ... see, my ISP told me that I had to reorder broadband, which I did. But for some reason my old account is still active, along with my usual IP.

But, it's defaulted back to its rubbish 512Kb speed, and is even more patchy than before² — and it's doing my head in. So despite me wanting to keep things the way that they were (and not have to change fifty-million domain names), I'm going to get some advice from my ISP, and switch things over if that's the easiest thing to do.

¹ That day being "Thursday", most likely

² You know what's weird? I'm sat here, watching my logs stream past as normal, while I can't even download the front page of Flickr. It's as if my upstream is fine, but my downstream is fucked.

To Do

tagintentions rants

I'm always very aware that the things I tend to write about these days never quite touch on the fevered ventage of my earlier days. I'm deeply conscious that it's been a hell of a long time since I wrote anything remotely challenging.

I think that early on, I had many many things I wanted to shout about, but — having shouted them, er, about already — I kinda hate going back over old ground and restating the obvious.

That being said, there are a few things niggling me at the moment — things that are forming vague, half-written posts on my desktop and in my head.

I just wanted to leave myself a casual reminder — in the form of an unordered list — of what those things are, so that I might actually get off my arse and write/finish them...

  1. A full-on discussion about why I made this, grumbling about some of the narrow-minded thinkings behind some of the negative feedback I've seen.

  2. An indepth, meandering vocalisation of the ongoing discussion I have with myself about whether or not transvestism and crossdressing is a bad thing, and why I can understand, yet argue against (to a point) people who have a problem accepting it.

  3. A lamenting and dismayed yearning for the original excitement I felt when I thought that things were getting so much better, and the idea of (a perhaps crappily titled) 'Tranny 2.0' emerged in my head, that was replaced with a general disgruntlement that things are just as shit as they've always been.

Hold on. That was an ordered list

TG Chat Portal Revisited

tagdev chatroom image

I used to spend a lot of time in Sarah West's chatroom. In fact, I owe a great deal to the people that still frequent it, for the support and general friendliness that they showed me when I was first shoving my face around the internets about six years ago.

(Or was it five?)

Anyways. Ages ago, I used to have a domain that I intended to use for a couple of things — wearetheprettyones.com. Like a lot of things that I intended on doing, it slipped behind the wayside, and I let it lapse into the hinterland of null-DNS.

But, a comment on this blog that showed up in my watchlist (but for some unknown reason got marked as spam) this morning, reminded me that I used to host a cunning little script that acted as a 'front-end' to it, and let you upload pictures to use as an avatar on it — a script that is totally useless now that I've lost the domain.

So I've moved it to here

'Scuse the Old Skool <tables>s and ancient avatar of mine. I might drag it into 2007 at some point.

negative feedback

I hope you're not including my suggested 'tweak' as 'negative feedback'! Anyone slagging that off obviously doesn't grasp (a) the vision required to see that it's possible to transform 'thing 1' into 'thing 2'; and (b) the amount of work that goes into building transform routines (actually, this second one is your fault — you made it look too easy  ). I don't know; you could give some people the moon on a bloody stick and they'd bitch 'cause it doesn't taste like cheese!

Nil deperandum chuck; geniusususes often have difficulty selling inspirational concepts to lumpen swine (I should know — my idea for the black highlighter pen has been roundly mocked, but one day...)

I hope things get back to normal progress to better than normal soon.

I hope you're not including my suggested 'tweak' as 'negative feedback

No, not at all. I'm just doing my usual "Yeah, done that now" thing.

It wasn't that — it was something along the lines of how what I did was an example of how SL is "broken" for pro developers — which annoyed me, because it struck me that it's more broken for "whiney, lazy developers" than "pro" ones...

...but like I said, that's a post for Teh Future™

Sunderland Point and Sambo's Grave

taglink lancaster sunderland

Somewhere I've never been, but really must go — considering it's just down the coast

Good to have you back Siobhan, despite the blockage in your downstream!

Sunderland Point is an essential place to visit. It's a lovely cycle ride. As soon as you pass Asda things get weird and other-worldly. But look at the tide table first, otherwise you'll be sleeping next to Samboo all night till the water goes down.

Ha! Coincidence: MOI has just posted a lot of photos from a bike round out there.
